final update

Image
For the final project "digital painting" I chose to lean into a heavy blue background, creating mountains shifting into darker blues the closer the mountain is to the viewer. Then adding a red ribbon to contrast with the blue colours. Due to this piece being a digital painting I wanted to experiment with small details by zooming and shrinking, so on the furthest mountain I included a campsite with a fire going.  once I felt like this was a satisfying painting I had to think and choose what id add next, and keeping the theme of nature i chose to include leaves, birds, clounds, and trees, then to include more with the human interaction I included the silhouette of climbers.

here we can see the start of my piece, I wanted to start with something familiar to me, mountains. With this I plan to add less anticipated pieces to it, ribbon, camp sight, many small details to make you really want to look closely at the work. From that point I then will be adding other small details found online, using pngs I want to find what could work cohesively with this colours I chose and background itself.

I felt I should also share this image to go along with the progression of my art, after high school I quit art for over a year until one day I chose to pick it back up and find myself once again. After I chose to continue making are this was the third image I ever created showing even more how much I have progressed since my time in high school

Photo Book

Image
For this assignment, I created a book with a sequence and one with a series, combing both visual storytelling and digital editing techniques. I started by planning out the concept and deciding what kind of mood and message i wanted to portray for each image. The first book "within my heart" was my series, I chose to focus on what makes me who I believe I am. I enjoy the idea of dividing the picture between the old me, and what I am now. For the editing process I chose to use affinity, being that it was free and I proffered working on this at home. I worked with both found images and personal images. some of which being photos of myself in a clearer photo, and others of me and my best friend. I used photos I found to represent more of myself and some of my insecurities.  I also experimented with texture overlays, creating this dirty and filtered look on some of the pieces, I found this worked well to desaturate some of the photos and blend better with the photo ID I used for...

while working on the photo book I found myself loving this photo the most, it shows me and my best friend growing up together, the photo to the left is me in grade 7 and the photo on the right is him in grade 7. the photo in the top right is one of my favorite memories of a time I dressed up in an old plague doctor costume as we rode our bikes around town at 2 am. Finally the photo in the top left is him and I as adults, taken last year for Christmas this is one of the most amazing memories I have.

This past week I had done some of my own research on the 4 hole Japanese bookbinding style. I found out that the 4 hole Japanese bookbinding is actually a subtype of fukuro-toji or in other words "pouch binding", this is where the books sheets are folded along the fore-edge and sewn along the open holes near the spine.  The 4 hole bookbinding was particularly popular and important in the east Asia culture, working best with their style of paper, and was ideal for the single sheets used at that time. Though we are using a very basic style of bookbinding I found more examples that the binding in itself can be an artwork.  We can see that we can get many interesting shapes and styles built within the bindings and will function the same way as a standard binding would.
Though I forgot to upload my videos I am doing so now, I actually had lots of fun with these. It's not my favorite medium for my art I do still find it fascinating. I was not able to upload the videos to blogger so to make my life easier I posted it to youtube.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xHAgT5o0bss here is the link to my video
